The Broken Anchor: One of Bandon's Best Eateries

Written by Marcus Axford, 8/15/23

Located in beautiful Old Town Bandon at 325 2nd St. SE and operating 7 days a week from Noon to 11pm, The Broken Anchor Bar & Grill is easily one of the best places to eat south of Coos Bay. The

first thing you'll notice when walking in is the inviting atmosphere, my wife and I went for lunch and loved the welcoming layout, everything is set up so you aren't squished together and making the space feel crowded, noisy or overwhelming. That isn't to say it might not get a little rowdy on the occasional evening, but overall it's a very enjoyable environment, especially for people who might have sensitivity issues. The music is loud enough where you can enjoy it if you want to, but not so loud that it mixes with all the other sounds in the room and drowns out your conversation. It definitely does not feel like the traditional bar and grill experience and to me that's a good thing, sports bars in particular can be really frustrating.

The staff are absolutely wonderful, again a really nice balance of making sure you have what you need without overly exerting their presence, and even on a busy night they keep up really well. Nice, friendly and professional with a touch of personal, just how any restaurant should be.

Now let's talk about my favorite part, the food. Wow, I cannot even begin to explain how good the food is, I admittedly haven't sampled a whole lot, but just what I have eaten you can tell that the food is fresh and made with love and passion, and the uniqueness of the food is something to note as well. The Anchor Burrito is my favorite and I can only describe it as a cross between a burrito and a wrap, stuffed with fresh lettuce, tomato, cheese sauce AND cheddar cheese, ranch, sriracha, fresh pico, guacamole, and your choice of pork carnitas (my personal pick), chicken or for an extra charge, steak. The most insane part about this burrito however has got to be the last 2 ingredients: Cheese curds and french fries! Oh and did I mention this is advertised as a monster burrito? The advertising doesn't lie, one of my best friends who knows a big burrito when he sees one had quite the audible reaction to our Instagram pic. I have also tried the rock fish and chips, as well as the fish tacos, all fresh tasting, all delicious!

Want to pair your meal with something really fun and tasty? Broken Anchor offers cold, locally brewed beer and fresh cocktails. My partner Leah and I while on a trip down decided to split a fish bowl cocktail and it was both fun and delicious! Oh, and the food also keeps pretty great, Leah and I were eating burrito and tacos for breakfast the next day and it was just as delicious as the night before.

Ultimately I cannot say enough good things about the food here and the restaurant as a whole, and while the food might seem a little pricey (The Anchor Burrito is 17$) it is not only filling, but when you consider that even fast food these days can run between 30-40$ for just two people, why not support local business and eat better tasting food?

(My Anchor Burrito,

I got carried away

and started eating!)
